CWQRC is seeking research staff to participate in a project on "Treating wastewater for potable reuse: removal of micropollutants using advanced oxidation" commencing early 2009.
Recycling treated wastewater for drinking water is becoming one of the most important strategies to droughtproof Australian water supplies. An innovative Western Australian trial will augment water supplies by reinjecting wastewater treated by microfiltration/reverse osmosis into Perth's major drinking water aquifer. However, preliminary work has shown that even this high level of treatment does not remove all trace organic chemicals, which is a regulatory and health concern. This project will investigate removal of micropollutants or the control of their formation by a suite of advanced oxidation processes. Studying the fundamental mechanisms and kinetics of these new technologies will enable direct translation into treatment plant design. This 3-year project is funded jointly by the Australian Research Council, the Water Corporation of Western Australia and Water Quality Research Australia (WQRA) and the advertised positions will be based in Perth, Western Australia.
Positions will be fixed-term for 2 Years with the likelihood of funding being available for further employment. Further information is available through the following links.

Chair-in-Residence Program
The CWQRC has developed the Chair-in-Residence Program to fund high calibre research scientists to visit the CWQRC. Research Chairs will be distinguished scientists in the field of Water Quality and Treatment, who have an outstanding research track record, will actively participate in CWQRC research, and share their expertise within the CWQRC alliance. The Chair will be appointed at the invitation of the CWQRC Reference Group for a tenure of up to one year, during which time they will be based at Curtin University in Perth, Wester Australia.
Please read the program guidelines (.pdf document) or contact the Director, Associate Professor Anna Heitz (A.Heitz@curtin.edu.au) for further information.
