Brad Allpike is CRC/ CWQRC Research Fellow within the Curtin Water Quality Research Centre. Brad is focused on the characterisation of natural matter by various techniques including novel methods for reduction of carbonyl and carboxyl functional groups as well as new methods for isolation and fractionation of NOM. In the coming months he will submit his Ph.D. thesis for examination. The project involved the study of NOM that was both removed after treatment by a new ion exchange technique, known as MIEX®(Magnetic Ion Exchange), and NOM that was left behind after treatment with MIEX®. Prior to commencement of his Ph.D. studies, Brad was employed at Curtin University under the guidance of Associate Professor Anna Heitz as a research assistant to help solve industry-related water quality problems spanning a wide range of issues.
